Biographical sketch re life of Confederate nurse A.W.B. Clarke (1832-1911) who grew up on Roseville plantation formerly in Darlington County, now a part of Florence County, S.C. In 1904, the Clarke family founded the McCown and Clarke Company in Black Swamp Township, operating general stores, a cotton gin, and providing other services to their rural community.
